SMS or Text Scam
Scam messages often pretend to come from the government, companies you deal with, or even people you know, with the aim of tricking you. They create a sense of urgency to make you act quickly and usually include a link to a fake website. Any personal information you enter there can be stolen and used to withdraw money or commit fraud in your name. To make the messages seem authentic, scammers can spoof phone numbers and sender IDs, and they may insert fraudulent texts into the same message thread as legitimate communications from the organisation — which makes them especially hard to spot.
